Klippa and I-Finance Services combine efforts to uphold new gambling regulation
Press Release | August, 2024
The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has imposed new regulations establishing how much of their monthly income players can spend online. As early as October 1st, any young adult from the Netherlands who wants to gamble more than 300€ a month will have to prove they can afford the expense. The same goes for adults over 24 years of age looking to spend 700€ or more in online casinos.
In support of the new regulations, software developer Klippa and fintech company I-Finance Services have joined forces to ensure that affordability checks can be performed effectively and with ease.
Casinos and players need to comply
Online gambling providers will soon have to perform mandatory checks on each person that deposits more than the previously mentioned amounts. The measure is part of an ample set of protections imposed by the Ministry of Justice and Safety, which aims to help players reflect if their gambling budgets are indeed manageable.
In order to ensure conscious gaming behavior, lower deposit limits are encouraged, while higher ones need to be accompanied by strong proof of affordability. It is here that the two Dutch companies have combined their expertise in document processing and financial responsibility solutions. I-Finance Services and Klippa presented a viable formula that easily carries out the helpful checks, while also allowing players to enjoy their favorite pastime without too much hassle.
To put it simply, the playing limit is determined by a very straightforward affordability check which ensures that no more than 30% of a person’s monthly income is invested in online gambling. It is as simple as uploading a relevant document such as a bank statement, salary slip, or tax return. Thanks to present day technological advancements, all of these can be read and processed automatically with instant results.
The companies foresee future changes
Since both organizations are based in the Netherlands and specialize in compliance with Dutch policies, they are also trying to anticipate adjustments that lie ahead. “Online casinos will have to face increasingly challenging policy regulations, which is why we’ve made sure that our joint approach is not only ready for the present, but also future changes”, said I-Finance Services CCO, Dion van Duijn.
We strongly believe that the affordability check covers all necessary aspects. Player data is accessed strictly when needed, and players always retain control over their consent. This way, we respect privacy, adhere to the highest security standards, and allow operators to focus on delivering a safe and enjoyable gaming experience
The KSA regularly conducts extensive investigations to check the duty of care fulfillment on the Dutch online gambling market. New regulations and measures, which include the current developments, are then imposed on the industry. Entrepreneurs in this niche can and should stay ahead of gambling authority requirements, as they are meaningful and especially aimed at protecting vulnerable categories.
